Biel-Bienne

BKW FMB building

During Expo.02, BKW FMB Energy Ltd. conveyed poetry and news on the façade of its regional office in Biel-Nidau.

Directly at the main entrance to the Arteplage Biel-Bienne, it realised the unique work Rid'eau. As an oversized weather map, the Rid'eau work symbolised the elements of water and wind, the most important components of electricity production. Nine blue textile cloths and foils, which moved in the wind and over which water flowed, were attached to the building façade.

On the roof of the BKW FMB building, a half-metre high and twelve-metre wide LED ticker display continuously broadcast the latest news from politics, business, sport and culture from the Swiss Press Agency (sda).

BKW FMB was involved in Expo.02 in a number of ways: in addition to redesigning the entrance area to the Arteplage Biel-Bienne, as initiator and member of Expen AG it played a key role in setting up and securing the energy supply during the national exhibition. BKW FMB was also involved in the development and construction of MobiCat, the world's largest solar-powered ship.
