The attention paid to the topic of homeland in the recent past speaks for itself: Heimat is in vogue, is being discussed, re-evaluated, marketed or appropriated. The idea that Heimat is a given constant shaped by autobiographical background is being revised.
Homeland is produced here claims the Heimatfabrik and shows homeland as a dynamic product that is continuously created anew and individually by people from the raw materials of landscape, politics, economy, language, dreams and society. Heimat is changeable, random, highly individual and eludes rational access.
The multi-layered and individually composed profile of homeland and the topicality of the discussion can be experienced in the Heimatfabrik. The factory metaphor points to the production character and processuality of Heimat, the architecture of the exhibition building evokes a deliberate association with the provisional: Home is not only produced during Expo.02, but everywhere and always. The temporary production site in Murten offers visitors an inspiring atmosphere that confirms existing homelands, makes alternative homelands possible or points to new homelands.
