NEXPO & X27: Media release

NEXPO & X27 join forces!

NEXPO and X27 have signed a co-operation agreement that establishes closer cooperation between the two national exhibition projects. This paves the way for a joint Expo bid. The two initiatives had already signed a memorandum of understanding in 2022. A merger of the various projects is in line with the wishes of the Federal Council and the cantons.

NEXPO and X27 agree that every generation has a right to a national exhibition that addresses the current issues of our time and creates prospects for the future. They also share the vision of a Swiss-wide, participatory, sustainable and evolving national exhibition.

NEXPO and X27 will now finalise their bid to the federal government by the end of 2026. To this end, the concept for a nationwide national exhibition will be refined and prepared for submission. In addition, the feasibility study will show how the NEXPO project can make the next Expo a success. X27 complements this feasibility study with the first exemplary experimental spaces.

The federal government is currently preparing the legal basis for co-financing the national exhibition. At the end of 2026, it will decide on the amount of its co-financing so that the next national exhibition can take place in 2034 according to current planning. NEXPO and X27 are convinced that a joint bid will enable them to win the competition for the next Expo.
