Ticketing
Ticketing and access control was a separate project at Expo.02. The main task of this project was to enable efficient and smooth access to the national exhibition and at the same time ensure comprehensive control of visitor flows.
To ensure access control at the Arteplages, the main and side entrances were equipped with the appropriate infrastructure (turnstiles and readers). Each Arteplage had a Customer Care Centre where admission, event and boat tickets could be purchased. This centre also served as an information and enquiry point and offered various banking services.
Before entering the Arteplage, visitors had their 1-day or 3-day pass validated by a receptionist and received a wristband in return. With this wristband, the visitor could then pass through the turnstile and move freely throughout the Arteplage. The wristband also gave visitors access to the other Arteplage sites. At the Arteplage Murten-Morat, the same system applied to entering a solo exhibition, as the Arteplage itself was accessible without a ticket. Holders of a season pass could go directly to the turnstile and were checked there.
A special entrance was set up at each Arteplage for people with disabilities and visitors with pushchairs.
Admission on special days
There were special days that had a direct impact on ticketing and access control and those that had an indirect impact. The cantonal days of the events had a direct impact because the residents of the respective canton received a separate admission authorisation. The opening and closing days of Expo.02, the 1 August celebrations and weekend days had an indirect impact, as larger numbers of visitors were expected on these days.
