For the first time in the history of the National Exhibitions, it was decided to offer a presence to the foreign population of Switzerland. To this end, the President of the Federal Commission for Foreigners and President of the General Assembly of Expo.02, Francis Matthey, initiated a co-operation between Expo.02 and the Federal Office for Foreigners' Affairs.
