On Saturday, 10.08.2024 at 17:00, we met for the next Expo.02 meeting, this time at DISPO in Nidau/Biel-Bienne on the occasion of the New Biel exhibition.
The world capital New York and the watchmaking metropolis of Biel have many things in common. So do the world exhibitions and the national exhibitions.
- World Exhibitions
1939/1964 New York - Swiss Exhibitions
1939/1964/2002 Switzerland
New York has hosted two World Exhibitions to date. In Flushing Meadows, known for the US OPEN, the area was a swamp until the World's Fair, which was drained. An analogy to the lake district. Because if you place the location on the map of the lake country, Flushing Meadows is located exactly in Büren and near the old Aare.
The exhibition organisers also attempted to compare the dreams and visions of the exhibitions at the time and to take a look into the future and its development potential.
Various books, posters, magazines, newspapers, clothes, merchandising and other material from the Landi 1939, the 1964 National Exhibition and Expo.02 were on site as contemporary witnesses.
Despite the very hot weather, some former Expo.02 employees and Expo.02 enthusiasts were present at DISPO and listened to the talk by Ruedi Rast, former Directeur Technique of Expo.02, about his work at Expo.02 and the architecture of the Arteplage Biel-Bienne. It was interesting.
We would like to thank the two exhibition organisers Beat Cattaruzza and Matthias Grütter for their commitment and hospitality.
